Book excerpt: Ehud Ben Zvi has been at the forefront of exploring how the study of social memory contributes to our understanding of the intellectual worldof the literati of the early Second Temple period and their textual repertoire. Many of his studies on the matter and several new relevant works are here collected together providing a very useful resource for furthering research and teaching in this area. The essays included here address, inter alia, prophets as sites of memory, kings as sites memory, Jerusalem as a site of memory, a mnemonic system shaped by two interacting ‘national’ histories, matters of identity and othering as framed and explored via memories, mnemonic metanarratives making sense of the past and serving various didactic purposes and their problems, memories of past and futures events shared by the literati, issues of gender constructions and memory, memories understood by the group as ‘counterfactual’ and their importance, and, in multiple ways, how and why shared memories served as a (safe) playground for exploring multiple, central ideological issues within the group and of generative grammars governing systemic preferences and dis-preferences for particular memories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-part commentary argues that Chronicles, placed as it is among the 'historical books' in the traditional Old Testament of the Christian church, is much misunderstood. Restored to its proper position as the final book in the canon as arranged in the order of the Hebrew Bible, it is rather to be understood as a work of theology essentially directed towards the future. The Chronicler begins his work with the problem facing the whole human race in Adam-the forfeiture of the ideal of perfect oneness with God's purpose. He explores the possibility of the restoration of that ideal through Israel's place at the centre of the world of the nations. This portrayal reaches its climax in an idealized presentation of the reign of Solomon, in which all the rulers of the earth, including most famously the Queen of Sheba, bring their tribute in acknowledgment of Israel's status (Volume 1). As subsequent history only too clearly shows, however, the Chronicler argues (Volume 2), that Israel itself, through unfaithfulness to Torah, has forfeited its right to possession of its land and is cast adrift among these same nations of the world. But the Chronicler's message is one of hope. By a radical transformation of the chronology of Israel's past into theological terms, the generation whom the Chronicler addresses becomes the fiftieth since Adam. It is the generation to whom the jubilee of return to the land through a perfectly enabled obedience to Torah, and thus the restoration of the primal ideal of the human race, is announced.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book breaks with established canons and resists some of the stereotypes of feminist biblical studies. It features a wide range of contributors who showcase new methodological and theoretical movements such as feminist materialisms, intersectionality, postidentitarian "nomadic" politics, gender archaeology, and lived religion, and theories of the human and the posthuman. The Bible and Feminism: Remapping the Field engages a range of social and political issues, including migration and xenophobia, divorce and family law, abortion, "pinkwashing," the neoliberal university, the second amendment, AIDS and sexual trafficking, and the politics of "the veil." Foundational figures in feminist biblical studies work alongside new voices and contributors from a multitude of disciplines in conversations with the Bible that go well beyond the expected canon-within-the-canon assumed to be of interest to feminist biblical scholars. Moving beyond the limits of a text-orientated model of reading, this collection looks at how biblical texts were actualized in the lives of religious revolutionaries, such as Joanna Southcott or Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. It charts the politics of the Pauline veil in the self-understanding of Europe and reads the "genealogical halls" in the book of Chronicles alongside acts of commemoration and forgetting in 9/11 and Tiananmen Square.

The De Soto expedition was the first major encounter of Europeans with North American Indians in the eastern half of the United States. De Soto and his army of over 600 men, including 200 cavalry, spent four years traveling through what is now Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas. For anthropologists, archaeologists, and historians the surviving De Soto chronicles are valued for the unique ethnological information they contain. These documents, available here in a two volume set, are the only detailed eyewitness records of the most advanced native civilization in North America—the Mississippian culture—a culture that vanished in the wake of European contact.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Louis C. Jonker considers more sophisticated and nuanced models for applying the heuristic lens of "identity" in the interpretation of the Hebrew Bible book of Chronicles. Not only does he investigate the potential and limitations of different sociological models for this purpose, but the author also provides a more nuanced analysis of the socio-historical context of origin of late Persian-period biblical literature by distinguishing between four levels of socio-historic existence in this period. It is shown that varying power relations were in operation on these different levels which contributed to a multi-levelled process of identity negotiation. Louis C. Jonker shows the value of the chosen methodological approach in his analysis of Chronicles, but also suggests that it holds potential for the investigation of other Hebrew Bible corpora.

This bundle offers books #1, #2, and #3 in one convenient file, with over 200,000 words of reading. In LOVE LIKE THIS, Keira Swanson, 28, lands her dream job at Viatorum, a slick magazine in New York City, as an aspiring travel writer. But their culture is brutal, her boss is a monster, and she doesn’t know if she can last for long. That changes when Keira, by a fluke, is handed a coveted assignment and given her big chance: to travel to Ireland for 30 days, witness the legendary Lisdoonvarna festival of love, and to debunk the myth that true love exists. Keira, cynical herself and in a rocky place with her long-term boyfriend, is all too happy to oblige. But when Keira falls in love with Ireland and meets her Irish tour guide, who just may be the man of her dreams, she is no longer sure of anything. In LOVE LIKE THAT, Keira Swanson returns to New York, her head spinning from her Ireland trip and still madly in love with Shane. But when a surprise event comes between them, their relationship may have to end. Keira is a star at her magazine, though, and they give her their next plum assignment: to travel to Italy for 30 days and discover what the Italian secret is to love. Keira, still reeling from her Ireland trip, finds her high expectations for Italy dashed, as nothing at first goes as was planned. In her whirlwind trip through Italy, spanning Naples, the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Rome, Verona, Venice and Florence, Keira begins to wonder if the Italians really do hold a secret to love. That is, until she meets her new tour guide—and everything she thought she knew is turned on its head. In LOVE LIKE OURS, Keira Swanson, returns to New York City, this time with Cristiano in tow. Having him in New York, and having him meet her family, is culture shock for them both. Keira is soon assigned a new article, her most important yet: a 30 day trip to Paris—with Cristiano in tow. Her assignment: to find out if their love can last in a foreign country, on new ground for them both. As Keira and Cristiano take the romantic trip of a lifetime to Paris, they find their love tested in unexpected ways. When a surprise twist comes their way, everything changes. Can their love withstand it? A whirlwind romantic comedy that is as profound as it is funny, THE ROMANCE CHRONICLES will make you laugh, cry, and will keep you turning pages late into the night—and will make you fall in love with romance all over again.

This book was released on 2021-08-23 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chronicles of Hindu Astrology, the concept of overlapping is a detailed research work on imposed plenatary influences to predict our life events. Planetary Influence is not a new word in the language of astrology. Generally, we judge a native's horoscope with the individual's natal chart, and Dasha system. We compute all the planetary influences and associations present in the specific Janma Kundali. But, practically, each and every event of a Native’s life gets influenced by the activities of his environment and the people around him. Specially, some qualities like motivation, demoralization, moral support, and financial support from others may create a huge change in the lifestyle of a native. Also, it is observed that sometimes some special events like marriage, child birth may create huge change in native's fate. Overlapping is a very significant but simple way to understand the mutual effects of various surrounding charts over the main natal chart of a native. Exactly which happens in calculation of the effects of Transit. The transitional planets introduce beneficial or malefic effects depending upon their relative position with respect to the natal planets. A beneficial and friendly planet introduces more strength and positivity when passing over the beneficial places, like Trikona. Any person carries the properties and effects of planetary placements in his or her birth chart. When he or she makes a close relationship with another person these effects create some influence on that person. These effects are called overlapping. Concept of Overlapping Theory is a new idea in predictive astrology which is based on traditional and general Vedic astrological concepts and ideas. The rules and functionalities of Parasharian Astrology adopted here. But this is totally a new thought and very much effective for prediction and remedial measures without any external remedy.
